Advanced Strategic Communications

Company Overview

Built from the case file. Not the textbook.

Advanced Strategic Communications is the training, consulting, and speaking practice of Joseph R. Auriemma, Jr., a 24-year veteran of the New York State Police. ASC builds evidence-based interviewing methodology and search warrant doctrine from real cases, then teaches it to the audiences who need it: police officers, investigators, prosecutors, command staff, HR professionals, educators, attorneys, and sports organizations.

Built on cases. Tested in courtrooms.

The case that started everything

In 2011, an upstate New York homicide investigation produced a suppressed interrogation and an acquittal. The case became known as People v. Nunez, and for Joseph R. Auriemma, Jr., then a Senior Investigator with the New York State Police, it became the inflection point that produced Advanced Strategic Communications.

ASC was built on a clear proposition: the accusatorial interrogation methodologies that dominated American law enforcement training for forty years, principally the Reid Technique and the commercial training programs derived from it, had outlived their evidentiary defensibility. The alternative, rapport-based investigative interviewing, was already established internationally and validated by FBI HIG research and the UN Méndez Principles on Effective Interviewing (2021), but no widely available American training built it from the inside. Joe spent the next decade building one. The result was the Teach to Talk® philosophy and the Adaptive Strategies Compass™, a non-confrontational, evidence-based methodology built on cognitive psychology, the Enhanced Cognitive Interview (Fisher and Geiselman), rapport-based disclosure, and Strategic Use of Evidence (Granhag and Hartwig).

In 2017, the Brandyn Foster homicide investigation deepened the work. Across 381 days, Joe and his team developed advanced search warrant tactics, including coordination with federal partners that contributed to Google’s introduction of the Tombstone Report, a public record of the case still cited in cloud-data investigations today. The lessons of that investigation became the foundation of ASC’s Precision Search Warrants course and The Affiant’s Standard, a 50-state book series on search warrant drafting now in development.

Today, ASC operates as a training, consulting, and speaking practice. Training is delivered to law enforcement, legal, education, HR, and sports audiences across all fifty states. Consulting is delivered exclusively to law enforcement agencies across two service lines: Law Enforcement Consulting and Polygraph Unit Consulting, including digital evidence and search warrant strategy. The methodology is the same one that survived suppression hearings, secured arrests, and produced court-ready evidence in some of the hardest cases an investigator can work.
